Abstract
Re-decision Therapy was developed in 1965 by Bob and Mary Goulding. It is a combination of Transactional Analysis, Cognitive Therapy and Gestalt Therapy. This process is a powerful way of resolving family of origin issues, as well as internal conflicts. It is ideal for both short and long-term therapy.
This work aims at:
1- Studying the different therapeutic approaches to “re-decision” as being applied in group psychotherapy setting.
2- Evaluation of the use of these therapeutic approaches as implied on the individual group member and the therapy group as a whole.
The research was held between (14-10-2000) and (28-9-2003). Ten sessions were selected from the group psychotherapy program to be studied. The selected sessions were subjected to detailed qualitative analysis for their structure and functions and how they serve the re-decision process.
Two main sets of techniques were used in selected sessions: Gestalt therapy techniques and transactional analysis techniques. The used techniques were found to form a hierarchy that go step by step in the direction of decision making process that finally reaches a psychologically healthy new life decision/re-decision.
